Dear 5L Parents:

Welcome all to a new school year! Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Betsy Lafontant and I will be your child’s classroom teacher.  I am originally from New York City (born and raised) but have been living abroad for the past nine years working in international schools in Indonesia, Nigeria and Kenya.  I have also worked as a teacher in New York City and in the Republic of Moldova (as a Peace Corps Volunteer).  This is my fourth year at ISK.  In addition, I am the mother of a super cute two-year old, Jesse.  He will be starting nursery school this year so after 15 years as a classroom teacher, I will now experience school as a parent.

I will send home our daily schedule at the end of the week.  Tentatively, our P.E. days will be on Wednesday and Friday. On those days, students must come to school with the appropriate gear and clothing.  P.E. uniforms are compulsory and Crocs, flip-flops and sandals are not allowed for safety reasons.   Mrs. Nicot, the P.E. teacher, will let the students know on which day they will have swimming, but please note students will not be swimming the first two weeks of school. Class 5L will visit Mrs. Jones in the library on Tuesday and art with Ms. Elleby on Thursdays.

Since you're here, you already know about our class website.  Each quarter, I will update this website with the BIG events of that quarter, academic and social. I also post regular classroom forms such as reading logs and math study sheets.  So if your child misplaces something distributed in class, it is a good idea to first check the document section of this website.  You can also email me via this website at the CONTACT ME tab on the right.

I hope to see you at the Elementary School Open House at the end of this month.  On that night, the grade 5 team will articulate school policies as they will apply to our grade and individual classrooms and answer any questions you will have.

Before I close, I would like to ask if any 5L parents would be willing to be our Room Parents.  Part of the job is to help organize class, school events and especially with out intercultural trip in February.  If you are interested in taking on this responsibility, please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Regards,
Betsy Lafontant
